SHIRLEY MAE SPRINGER STATEN is an international performer who lives in Anchorage, Alaska. She is a singer, keynote speaker, workshop facilitator, actress and event coordinator. Shirley Mae brings an unrivaled blend of vision, passion and sheer virtuosity to her work.
A child of Harlem and raised in rural Georgia, she has sung all her life. Ms. Staten has develop a 250 voice choir for the Anchorage Martin Luther King Citywide celebration, organized a 200 Women choir that performed in Beijing, China for the 1995 NGO Women's conference and organized an International Peace choir that performed in Cuba for the VII Festival Internacional de Coros. She is founder of the Martin Luther King Children's Choir in Anchorage, the One World/One People International Peace Choir and has recently developed the Anchorage chapter of the Threshold Choir.
Shirley Mae's repertoire of music is eclectic. It includes: traditional gospel, African, country western, blues, jazz and folk music. Ms. Staten has performed nationally and in China, France, Ethiopia, Djibouti, India and Cuba. |
